This week, From the Top comes to you from New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston. Among this week’s highlights, you’ll hear a very young violinist performing a brilliant showpiece by Wieniawski, a teenage pianist performing a nostalgic and flashy piece of salon piano music, and a teenage soprano performing an aria from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro as well as a whimsical work written by a teenage composer. Also, Roving Reporter Hayley Goldbach braves the boys locker room to show us how a teenage trombonist bridges the gap between classical music and hockey.

The Bone Rangers from the Merit School of Music (tenor trombonist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Sean Tripp, 15 from Lansing, IL; tenor trombonist Kevin Dombrowski, 15 from Lansing, IL; bass trombonist Jonathan Laxton, 17 from Oak Park, IL; and bass trombonist Matthew Wolford, 18 from Lansing, IL) performs “Trombone Quartet” by Walter Ross

Mezzo-soprano Carolyn Sproule, 17, from Montreal, Canada, performs “Non so più cosa son” from “Le nozze di Figaro” (The Marriage of Figaro) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Violinist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Ania Filochowski, 12, from Cranford, NJ, performs the Violin Concerto No.2 in D minor, III. “á la Zingara” by Henryk Wieniawski

Mezzo-soprano Carolyn Sproule and pianist/composer Neara Russell, 17, from Spring Green, WI, perform “Lemonade Pie” from “Food for the Gods…and me” by Neara Russell

Pianist Nathan Bello, 18, from Gladstone, OR, performs “The Enchanted Nymph” by Mischa Livitzki
