Co-Host & Pianist Michelle Cann performs Florence Price’s Sonata in E Minor on From the Top

Here’s a rare chance to see the music performed during the break at a live recording of #NPRsFromtheTop!

Florence Price composed her Piano Sonata in E minor in 1932, one year before the Chicago Symphony Orchestra premiered her first symphony, making Price’s piece the first composition by an African-American woman to be played by a major orchestra.

Here, Co-Host Michelle Cann performs the second movement from the sonata at Interlochen Center for the Arts on Show 368.
