Co-Host & Pianist Michelle Cann performs Florence Price’s Sonata in E Minor on From the Top

In times of uncertainty, music is always there as a space for comfort and reflection.
Today, we encourage you to take a few deep breaths and listen to this meditative movement from Florence Price’s Sonata for Piano performed by alum Michelle Cann.

Florence Price composed her Piano Sonata in E minor in 1932, one year before the Chicago Symphony Orchestra premiered her first symphony, making Price’s piece the first composition by an African-American woman to be played by a major orchestra.

Here, co-Host Michelle Cann performs the second movement from the sonata at Interlochen Center for the Arts on Show 368.
