Daily Joy: Tranquil Bassoon Performance
If you’re a fan of orchestral music, you’ll know that the great composers have employed the bassoon for some iconic moments in classical music.
For today’s Daily Joy, the bassoon is front and center with 17-year-old Xavion Patterson performing an expressive work for bassoon and piano written by Gabriel Grovlez. He’s joined by pianist Elizabeth Joy Roe of Anderson & Roe Piano Duo.
Xavion Patterson (bassoon), 16, is a junior at Stewarts Creek High School in Smyrna, Tennessee and a recipient of From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. He studies privately with Julia Harguindey, principal bassoonist of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra (NSO). Xavion is also a member of the NSO’s Accelerando Program for gifted young musicians and the Curb Youth Symphony of the Nashville Youth Orchestra Program. His recent musical highlights include attending the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in the summer of 2019, and placing second in the Texas Lyricism Competition for Oboe and Bassoon in May 2019. Xavion enjoys meditating and spending time with his friends.
