Hyunnew Choi, violin
Meet Hyunnew Choi
Seventeen-year-old Hyunnew Choi is a senior at Newton South High School and currently studies the violin with Miguel Perez-Espejo Cardenas. This year she is the principal second violin player of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and with them she toured the Netherlands and performed in Carnegie Hall. Hyunnew also served as the concertmaster of Massachusetts’ 2012 Eastern District Orchestra and of Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artists Orchestra. As a soloist, she has won a number of competitions, including the American Fine Arts Festival Concerto Competition, the Alexander & Buono International String Competition, Massachusetts Bay State String Contest, and the Roman Totenberg String Competition. She began teaching classical music through From the Top’s CDAL program at Chittick Elementary School, introducing students to chamber music and teaching private lessons. She continues to work with younger students at the Conservatory Lab Charter School as part of the El Sistema program.
