Meet dc2

dc2 performs on Show 440.

dc2 is comprised of Charlie Cheng (flute), Connor Chaffin (bassoon), and Daniel Huang (bass). The trio was formed at the Chamber Music Connection (CMC) in January 2023 under the mentorship of Artistic Director Deborah Price. The trio members hail from different high schools in the Central Ohio area and join together at CMC each week. Charlie is a freshman at Upper Arlington High School, Connor is a sophomore at Grove City High School, and Daniel is a junior at Olentangy Liberty High School. The name dc2 comes from the first initials of each member’s name, Daniel, Charlie, and Connor (hence the c2).

In addition to coaching with Deborah Price, dc2 has performed in masterclasses, in part through an education outreach collaboration with Chamber Music Columbus, for members of the Cavani, Callisto, and KASA Quartets. They have also received team-coaching from CMC associated faculty members Andrew Mehrebhan, Karen Pfeifer, Stephanie Price-Wong, and Aaron Schwartz, as well as guest artist coaching by Randy Hester and Betsy Sturdevant. Their private instructors include Lydia Roth, Emily Klepinger, Betwy Sturdevant, and Merideth Eshelman, and their high school band/orchestra directors include Todd Fessler, Jason Graham, and Jill Bixler, respectively.

dc2 is made up of a unique instrumentation providing opportunities for the ensemble members and their coaches to seek out and explore unusual repertoire working together through the challenges of arranging works specific to their instrumentation, including working directly with living composers.

dc2 participated successfully in the 50th Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Junior Wind division, performing their entire repertoire by memory. Over the course of the Fischoff competition, dc2 advanced to the semi-finals making their way into the top seven ensembles of their division.
