Hilda Huang Excels in Bach Competition

Pianist Hilda Huang placed third in the Seventh International Würzburg J. S. Bach Competition (first and second prizes were not awarded). She played the “Goldberg” Variations in the final round of the contest, held in Bavaria, Germany in March. The competition is open to all musicians under age 36, but Hilda is just 14, and she’s their youngest winner ever! After the competition, she was invited to record her English Suite with the local Bavarian radio station. What’s more is that Hilda will make her conducting debut with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra on April 17.

Hilda was fascinated by Bach even at age 11, when she played on an episode of From the Top at Carnegie Hall. Read a 2009 interview with Hilda about her love of Bach here.
