A Note to the From the Top Family
Young Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and musicians of Asian descent have shared so much beauty with the listeners of From the Top over the last 20 years. They are core to the story-telling and spectacular performances that have come to define From the Top.
In this time of growing anti-Asian sentiment and violence in the U.S., we stand in grief and solidarity with our Asian young musicians and their families. As our organization helps to shape upcoming generations of youth artists and leaders, we take our responsibility very seriously to create inclusive environments.
Since the horrific killing of George Floyd and the racial uprisings in our country, From the Top has embarked on a process to center racial equity practices and become an anti-racist organization. We cannot and will not ignore the racism in our society and in the classical music field that our BIPOC community has dealt with for years.
Throughout our history, Asian young artists and their parents have been our collaborators, supporters, and guides. I have so much gratitude for their work and I look forward to continuing to work together to bring joy into our broken world, and to telling the stories that will help to heal it.
