Brandon Hwang (piano), 17, is from Ramsey, New Jersey, and in his junior year at Ramsey High School. He studies piano with Stella Xu. Brandon has won several honors and awards, including recognition from the National YoungArts Foundation, Steinway and Sons, theEnkor International Music Competition, and the National League of Performing Arts. He is the founder and organizer for “Spirit of Music,” a group of pianists who perform seasonal concerts for senior citizens. Additionally, he served as a student intern at the JCC Thurnauer School of Music to help arrange masterclasses and benefit concerts. An actor as well as a musician, Brandon regularly performs with his school’s drama club. Brandon is also interested in history and sociology and has been researching how music has been used as a method of cultural exchange between countries during times of strife.
