Zion Giles, Percussion
Meet Zion
Zion appears on Show 479.
Zion Giles (percussion), 14, is an eighth-grade student from Chicago, Illinois, where he attends Alexander Graham Bell Montessori School. He studies percussion at Merit School of Music, where he continues to grow as a versatile and expressive young musician. Zion is profoundly deaf in both ears and hears with the assistance of cochlear implants, an experience that shapes his unique connection to sound and rhythm.
Drawn to all forms of music, Zion’s musical interests extend beyond percussion to include rapping and DJing, allowing him to explore creativity across multiple genres and styles. Whether behind the drum set, crafting lyrics, or building a playlist, he approaches music with curiosity and confidence.
Outside of music, Zion enjoys playing basketball and video games. He is also deeply involved in the Deaf community, serving as a teen leader and mentoring younger Deaf students. Through music, leadership, and service, Zion continues to inspire others while finding new ways to express himself and connect with the world around him.
