Leilani Patao (mezzo-soprano), 18, is from Los Angeles, California and attends the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA). She studies voice with Michael Stevens and Lisa Matsko Hamilton. Leilani is an active participant in musical theatre productions at her school. Notable roles include Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Leilani also recently starred in “Louder Than Words: High School Edition” for Netflix’s tick, tick…BOOM! with LACHSA. Prior to high school, Leilani spent seven years with the Jaxx Theatricals Conservatory. A songwriter as well as a singer, Leilani’s work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, where she was selected as a winner of the 2020 Musical Theatre Songwriting Challenge, and also by the YoungArts Foundation, where she was awarded Honorable Mention and Merit in the Singer/Songwriter categories two years in a row. Her most recent album, The Lovers Reversed, is now streaming on all platforms. In addition to performing and writing music, Leilani also serves as the Outreach Director for Love Through Music, a 501c3 non-profit charity helping children in Nepal. As a result of this work, she was awarded the 2020-2021 Presidential Volunteer Service Award for over 100 hours of community service. Outside of her musical pursuits, Leilani enjoys sewing and upcycling clothes, reading, painting, and baking.
