Alex Chen (piano), 17, is a high school senior from St. Louis, Missouri, studying with Zena Ilyashov.
Alex’s most recent honors include 1st Prize at the Chicago International Music Competition, 1st Prize at the VIII Odin International Music Competition, 2nd Prize at the NSAL (National Society of Arts and Letters) Piano Chapter Competition, winner of the MTNA Senior and Junior Piano State Competition, 5th Prize at the International Scherzo Piano Competition, and Honorable Mention at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition.

Alex is a former member of the St. Louis Youth Symphony Orchestra, Vice President of Human Resources at the HOPE (Harmonies of Pianists Everywhere) Project, and Regional Director of the Back to Bach National Association. Outside of piano, his hobbies include 3D-printed-model-rocketry (a combination which so far has yielded “limited results” and “bizarre explosions”), math, tennis, and annoying his two younger brothers.
