From the Top Featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
We’re so pleased to share From the Top: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert in honor of NPR’s 50th anniversary celebration. The intimate video performance series highlights several From the Top alumni, performing from their homes across the country.
NPR’s Tom Huizenga writes: “It’s been said that our young people are the hope of our future. If that’s true, the future of classical music looks blazingly bright, judging from these extraordinary performances by the young musicians in this triple-play Tiny Desk (home) concert.
These Tiny Desk performances alone are proof enough that classical music in America is alive and in very talented hands.”
Ifetayo Ali-Landing, an 18-year-old cellist from Chicago, IL, kicks off the program with a performance of “Evergreen” by Yebba, Jin-Jin and George Stuart Moore; arranged by violinist/From the Top Creative Charles Yang. (Learn more about Ifetayo in her episode of Where Music Lives with Kevin Olusola from 2019.)
Next, the Davisson Guitar Duo featuring sibling guitarists Jack Davisson, 16 and Elle Davisson, 13 from Palo Alto, CA performs “Jongo (for Two Guitars) by Paulo Bellinati, Guitar Solo Publications.
Finally, 13-year-old pianist Jerry Chang from St. Louis, MO, performs Impromptu Op 90 No 3 by Franz Schubert.
From the Top was previously featured on Tiny Desk in 2018.
Tiny Desk is a video series of live concerts hosted by NPR Music at the desk of All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen in Washington, D.C. During the pandemic, Tiny Desk shifted to present video concerts from artists across the world in their homes.
