About

This week’s show comes to you from Carnegie Mellon University’s Mellon Institute in Christopher O’Riley’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

You’ll hear a spirited performance of Bernstein’s Sonata for Clarinet & Piano played by a sophisticated 17-year-old clarinetist and a gorgeous performance of Cassado’s Requiebros played by a 14-year-old cellist. Plus, Chris discusses music with children’s television legend Fred Rogers (his real-life neighbor back in Pittsburgh), and Chris’s mom even stops by to “dish the dirt” on her son.

Performers and repertoire:

Clarinetist Mark Dubac, 17, from Columbia, MD, performs Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Leonard Bernstein

Trumpeter Jeff Peters, 15, from Van Buren, AR, performs the Allegro from Lotario by George Frideric Handel

Violinist Talia Pavia, 17, from Woodstock, IL, performs Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, 1st mvt. by Samuel Barber
