Today’s exceptional young performers all play instruments you might hear in a school band! We hear about the kids cartoon that motivated a Georgia teen to pick up the French horn, the New England brass player with the fortitude to lug around two tubas at once, a bassoonist on a mission to share the true range of her instrument, a clarinetist who plays Brahms with passion, and a percussionist from South Carolina who loves playing Bach on the marimba.

This episode is dedicated in memory of Tom Vignieri, our former colleague and friend.

  There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
  And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
