This week, from New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston, we’ll hear five outstanding musicians, including a 17-year-old performing part of the Saint-Saëns Clarinet Sonata, a teenage ensemble performing a movement from the Shostakovich Piano Trio, and a 16-year-old pianist performing the Chopin Prelude, Op. 38, No.24.

Performers and Repertoire:

The Brass Conspiracy (trumpeters Matthew Elzinga and Erik Hasslequist, euphonium player Jonathan Szopinski, French horn player Peter Farrell, and tubust Mark McGinnis, ages 17-18, from St. Paul, MN, performs Canzona per sonare No.2 by Giovanni Gabrieli

Clarinetist Kelley Day, 17, from Oak Ridge, TN, performs Sonata for Clarinet, 2nd mvt. by Camille Saint-Saëns

Violist Lisa Steltenpohl, 16, from North Barrington, IL, performs 1919 Suite, 4th mvt. by Ernest Bloch

The Shostakovich Trio (violinist Yumi Cho, 17; our violinist, cellist Xiaodan Zheng, 17; and pianist Weiyin Chen) from New York, NY, performs Piano Trio No.2, 2nd mvt.

Pianist Alicia Martinez, 16, from Rockaway, NJ, performs Prelude Op. 38, No. 24 by Frédéric Chopin
