Recorded at the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston, this special edition of From the Top celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. The fantastic Boston Children’s Chorus performs a variety of inspirational pieces, a teenage quartet perform the music of Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, and a talented 17-year-old flutist performs “Summerland” by William Grant Still.
Performers and Repertoire:
The Boston Children’s Chorus (65 members comprising the Premier Choir and Young Men’s Ensemble) performs “MLK” by U2, arranged by Bob Chilcott, and traditional spiritual “O’ Freedom,” arranged by Hall Johnson. Anthony Trecek-King, Artistic Director.
The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra String Quartet (violinist Charlotte Malin, 17, from Westwood, MA; violinist Kendra Lenz, 18, from Boston, MA; violist Alexandra Morgan-Welch, 17, from Andover, MA; and cellist Sasha Scolnik-Brower, 15, from Andover, MA) performs III. Allegro vivace from Quartet No. 1 (“Calvary”) by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson
The Boston Children’s Chorus performs “Kasar mie la gaji” (The Earth is Tired) by Alberto Grau
Flutist Chaz Salazar, 17 from Phoenix, AZ, performs “Summerland” by William Grant Still
The Boston Children’s Chorus performs “Lean on Me” by Kirk Franklin, arranged by Andre Williams
