Daily Joy: Expressive 15-year-old Horn Player
If you’re a fan of orchestral music, you know the horn plays a pivotal role in some of the most dramatic moments in the repertoire.
But for today’s Daily Joy, 15-year-old Plamen Fung shares the horn’s lyrical side in his performance of Franz Strauss’ Nocturno.
Plamen Fung (French horn), 15, hails from Westborough, Massachusetts. He has been attending the New England Conservatory Preparatory School since age 6. After torturing the double bass for three years, Plamen attended a brass instrument petting zoo where he discovered French horn and never looked back. He has been studying with Anne Howarth and has performed with Junior MYWE, the Brass Ensemble, and the Youth Symphony. Plamen is currently a member of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Honors Wind Quintet, and he has attended summer programs at the Luzerne Music Center in upstate New York, and the Crescendo Summer Institute in Tokaj, Hungary.
