From the Top heads to the Valley of the Sun with a show recorded at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts in Arizona. You’ll hear five phenomenal young musicians play works by Poulenc, Haydn, Villa-Lobos and Magin, as well as an original composition by the first honoree of our Young Composer Project. You’ll also learn how that same young man went “up the mountain a rock guitarist and returned a classical cellist.”

Oboist Dallas Durham, 17, from Lubbock, TX, performs Oboe Concerto in C Major, Allegro Spirituoso by Franz Joseph Haydn

Guitarist Alyssa Santoyo, 16, from Meridian, ID performs Prelude No. 1 by Hector Villa-Lobos

Flutist Helen McGarr, 12, from Lindon, UT, performs Sonata, 1st mvt. by Francis Poulenc

Pianist Christopher O’Riley performs “Between the Bar” by Elliott Smith, arranged by O’Riley

Composer/Cellist Kenneth Stewart, 18, from Tucson, AZ, performs his own composition “The Fallen Soldier”

Pianist Ryan MacEvoy-McCullough, 16, from Eureka, CA, performs Five Preludes, 1st, 4th and 5th mvts. by Milosz Magin

Pianist Ryan MacEvoy-McCullough performs a polka by Milosz Magin (closing of program)
