This week’s From the Top was comes to you from Strom Auditorium in Rockport, Maine, where you’ll hear outstanding musicians from 13 to 18 years old, including a young bassoonist “from just down the road a piece” in Kennebunk playing a movement from the Saint-Saëns Sonata,and a violist from that other Portland (the one in Oregon) playing from the Suite for Viola and Piano by Ernest Bloch. Also, you’ll get a lesson from Roving Reporter Hayley Goldbach on how to most effectively bribe your teenager.

The Bay Chamber Trio (clarinetist Jeremy Viner, 16 from Orono, ME; violinist Benjamin Beilman, 13, from Western Springs, IL; and pianist Daphne Nichols, 15, from Machiasport, ME) performs Contrasts, 3rd mvt. by Béla Bartók

Bassoonist Jason Souliere, 17, from Kennebunk, ME, performs Bassoon Sonata, 1st mvt. by Camille Saint-Saëns

Violinist Ann Fontanella, 14, from West Chester, PA, performs Variations on “Yankee Doodle” by Henri Vieuxtemps

Host Christopher O’Riley performs “There, There” by Radiohead, arranged by O’Riley

Violist Lauren Freeman, 18, from Portland, OR, performs Suite for Viola and Piano, 4th mvt. by Ernest Bloch

Pianist Timothy Andres, 17, from Washington, CT, performs “Toccata” from Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel
