From the Top plays host to a very special guest this week, Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Harbison.

You’ll hear the first movement of Harbison’s String Quartet No. 1 performed by a student ensemble, and you’ll also hear fabulous performances of Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Bach.

Performers and Repertoire:

Trio Allegro (pianist Steven Songtao Zhou, 16; cellist Sei-Gyung Kim, 16; violinist Dort Agustin Bigg, 17) from the Levine School in Washington, DC, performs Piano Trio in C Minor by Felix Mendelssohn

Cellist Eugene Lifchitz, 12, from San Jose, CA, performs Pezzo Capriecioso Op. 62 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Pianist Christopher O’Riley performs A Little Gigue by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The New England Conservatory Preparatory School Quartet (violinists Heather Wittels and Ashley Liberty; cellist Clara Kennedy; and violist Catherine McCurry) ages 17-18, from the Boston area, performs String Quartet No. 1, 1st mvt. by John Harbison

Pianist Joshua Feldman, 11, from New Hyde Park, NY, performs Organ Prelude in G Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach

Cellist Eugene Lifchitz performs Cello Sonata, 2nd mvt. by John Harbison
