Zoie Glosson, euphonium
Meet Zoie
Zoie Glosson (euphonium), 15, is from Houston, Texas, where she attends the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Zoie has been playing euphonium since the age of 7, and at the age of 12, became the youngest ever member of the Houston Brass Band. She is a three-time winner of First Chair in the TMEA Region Middle School Band and is also a recipient of the American Festival for the Arts Music Excellence Award. In the 8th grade, Zoie began performing professionally with the Magnolia City Brass Band, joining the Houston Professional Musicians Association at the age of 13.
In addition to music, Zoie has a strong interest in neuroscience and is conducting research on how music affects brain chemistry in relation to Alzheimer’s Disease. She is also interested in the impact of music on brain function and the effect of music study on overall intelligence. Zoie plans to double major in neuroscience and music at college, and aspires to become a neuroradiologist in the future.
Outside of academic studies, Zoie is a committed student of Shotokan Karate. She feels that, along with music, it teaches her to be disciplined and to keep calm in stressful situations. In this field, Zoie is a regional award winner and has competed in the State Championships.
Receiving the Award will allow Zoie to purchase a professional level euphonium as well as take consultation lessons with leading euphonium professors in preparation for her college applications.
