Meet William
William performed on Show 348 in Highwood, Illinois, recorded on February 26, 2018, at age 13.
William Tan (cello), 13, is from Hinsdale, Illinois and is a seventh grader at The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. He is a student of Hans Jensen at the Northwestern University School of Music. William has participated in young artist programs at Music@Menlo and Meadowmount School of Music. In December 2017, William won the Overall Open Junior Division of the Walgreens National Concerto Competition. As the recent winner of the 2018 Arthur D. Montzka Young Artists Concerto Competition, William will perform the complete Elgar Cello Concerto in e minor with the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra this February. He is a member of the touring cello ensemble Cellissimo. William is a voracious reader, enjoys playing chess, and is a proud member of the UCLS Maroons soccer team.
