Meet Stephen

Stephen performs on Show 444.

Stephen Chang (viola), 17, hails from from Southlake, Texas. He is a homeschool senior and studies viola with Ronald Houston. He has been principal violist in the TMEA All-Region orchestra for five years and has made the Texas All-State orchestra for three years. He is currently the principal violist of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.

Stephen has won awards at numerous competitions, including Honorable Mention in the Texas MTNA Competition, second place in the 2023 Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition, first place in the senior division at the 2023 Vernell Gregg Young Artists competition, first place in the Senior Sonata division at the 2023 Dallas Symphonic Festival, Finalist in the 2022 and 2023 Juanita Miller Concerto Competition, and Honorable Mention in the 2023 Collin County Young Artist Competition. He has performed as a soloist at the Dallas Symphonic Festival Gala Concert as well as with the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra.

He enjoys sharing his love of music through volunteer teaching at local schools as well as by participating in the Chamber Music International Youth Ambassadors program. Outside of classical music, Stephen is a 2-time national qualifier for STOA speech and debate, and he enjoys competitive speedcubing. He also loves listening to K-Pop and eating delicious sushi!
