Meet Soomin

Soomin performs on Show 449.

Soomin Oh (flute), 15, from Austin, Texas, has been playing the flute for almost six years and studies under Monica Song.

In 2020, she won several competitions, including the Bonn Germany International Music Competition, the Golden International Music Competition, and the Dallas Symphonic Festival Intermediate (Grade 6-8) Sonata Division.

In 2021, Soomin earned first place in the Floot Fire Virtual Soloist Competition, Claire Johnson Flute Competition (Elementary), and All-Region 26. She was also accepted as the youngest member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Philharmonic for the 21-22 season.

Her accomplishments in 2022 include winning the Dallas Symphonic Festival Competition Intermediate (Grade 6-8) Concerto Division, the Masterclass Competition of the Texas Flute Society, the Virtual Flute Soloist Competition, the Texas Flute Festival Solo and Ensemble Competition, All-Region 26, BTHVN WIEN International Competition, the Amadeus International Music Awards, and the Music Teacher National Association (MTNA) Texas Woodwind Junior round. Soomin also placed 2nd in the London International Music Competition, the Young Soloist International Music Competition, and the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Philharmonic Concerto Competition. Additionally, she was selected as the youngest member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra for the 22-23 season.

In 2023, Soomin won the Music Teacher National Association (MTNA) South Central Woodwind Junior round and was named overall third place in the Music Teacher National Association Final Woodwind Junior Division. She earned second place in the Lewisville Lake Symphony Young Artists Competition Junior Division and fourth in the World Flute E-Competition (Napolinova). She also won the 2023 Texas Flute Society Jr. High School Masterclass Competition, the Texas Flute Festival Solo and Ensemble Competition, the San Francisco Flute Society Virtual Competition Senior Division, Claire Johnson Flute Competition (junior high), and London International Music Competition. Soomin was selected as one of the masterclass performers in the National Flute Association (NFA) Competition.

Soomin has participated in masterclasses with Laurel Zucker, David Buck, Dr. Conor Nelson, Crystal Kim, and Dr Jennifer Grim, and has had private lessons with Yubeen Kim and Jasmine Choi.
