Richard Wang (cello), 12, from New York, New York, is a seventh-grade student at St. Bernard’s School and studies cello in the Pre-College Division at The Juilliard School with Dr. Clara Kim. He began playing the cello at the age of six and was admitted to Juilliard Pre-College at nine.

Richard has received recognition in both national and international competitions. In 2023, he was awarded first prize in the VIVA International Competition (soloist, ages 7–10), followed in 2024 by first prize in the CAI Competition (soloist, ages 9–11). In 2025, he was awarded first prize in the CAI Concerto Competition and appeared as soloist with the Camerata New Jersey Orchestra. That same year, he performed at the Juilliard Scholarship Benefit Gala and attended the Perlman Music Program summer session, working closely with distinguished faculty and peers.

Outside of music, Richard enjoys math, computer science, squash, and basketball. He also likes to play video games with his friends and upload game commentary to their YouTube channel.
