Meet Quartet Selene

Quartet Selene appears on Show 473.

Quartet Selene was formed in 2022 and is comprised of close friends Layla Chakhvashvili-Martinez, 17, violin; Lorelei Schoenhard, 16, violin; Sophia Alexander, 17, cello; and Emily Alexander, 17, viola. Quartet Selene studies with Nancy Shows in the Artaria Chamber Music School. The musicians are also members of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony’s (GTCYS) premier Symphony orchestra.

Next summer, the quartet will be featured on GTCYS’ tour to New Zealand and Australia, where they will perform Micheal Abels’ “Delights and Dances” for String Quartet and Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. In the Spring of 2025, the quartet competed in the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition where they received an honorable mention for their performance. Throughout the year, Quartet Selene shares their love of music at nursing homes, museums and fundraisers.

When not rehearsing or performing, the friends enjoy outdoor adventures and all-you-can-eat sushi.
