Olivia Park, flute
Meet Olivia
Olivia appears on Show 474.
Olivia Park (flute), 17, from San Jose, California, is a senior at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California, and a 2025 National YoungArts Winner with Distinction in classical music. She currently serves as co-principal flute of the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra and was selected as principal flute of the California All-State Symphony Orchestra in both 2024 and 2025.
Olivia began playing the flute at age nine and quickly discovered music as both an exciting challenge and a source of joy. Her artistry has been shaped by inspiring mentors, including Jooyoun Shin of the Korean Symphony Orchestra and Yubeen Kim, principal flutist of the San Francisco Symphony. She has also grown through experiences such as the Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s Flute Workshop and National YoungArts Week in Miami, where she collaborated with young artists from across the nation.
She has performed with renowned musicians including soprano Sumi Jo and pianist Kun-Woo Paik, artists who have served as inspiration for her musical journey. Yet she finds her most meaningful moments in performance from connecting with others, whether that be through chamber music, youth orchestra concerts, or performing for audiences at senior centers.
Beyond the classical stage, Olivia embraces versatility as a musician through her school’s diverse music programs. She is an avid jazz performer serving as lead alto and soprano saxophonist in the jazz band, led the pep band as a drum major to perform at halftime shows, and contributed to her school’s award-winning musical theater productions as a member of the pit orchestra, where she enjoys the unique collaboration between musicians, actors, and crew in bringing a story to life.
Last but not least, Olivia is a dedicated Taekwondo athlete with a third-degree black belt and serves as a Junior Instructor at her studio, teaching younger students. Whether on the concert stage, in the classroom, or in her community, she hopes to continue using her music to inspire, connect, and create meaningful change.
