Noah Ferris (cello), 18, hails from Amherst, Massachusetts, where he attends Amherst Regional High School and is regional director of the Back to Bach Project. He studies cello with Astrid Schween at Juilliard Pre-College. Noah began learning cello with Nicole Fizznoglia when he was 5. He has been a member of the Juilliard High School Chorus since 2021 and served as principal cellist of the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony in spring 2022 and 2023. As laureate of the Thomas Schwab Memorial Competition, Noah performed the Victor Herbert Cello Concerto No. 2 with the Holyoke Civic Symphony in 2023. He won second prize in the 2023 UMass Young Artists Awards and third prize in the 2024 Harvard Musical Association High School Achievement Awards. Noah was also a finalist in the 2023 Zodiac International Competition and the 2021 and 2023 Lyra Music Youth Competition. An avid chamber musician, Noah was a founding member of the Aster Trio, which earned the silver medal at the 2023 Coltman Chamber Music Competition in Austin, TX. He has participated in numerous summer festivals across New England, such as Bowdoin International Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, Greenwood Music Camp, Kinhaven Music School, and Boston University Tanglewood Institute. His mentors include Paul Katz, Edward Arron, and Julia Lichten. In his free time, Noah enjoys reading, travel, and making music with family and friends.
