Nicholas Rossi, saxophone
Meet Nicholas
Nicholas Rossi (saxophone), 16. is a junior at Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he studies classical saxophone with From the Top and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award alumnus, Eduardo Rivera. Nicholas is very active in his high school’s music program, serving as first chair and frequent soloist in the Calallen High School Varsity Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Marching Band, while also serving as music librarian. As a sophomore, Nicholas won the Most Outstanding Saxophonist Award at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition (TSSEC) and First Prize at the Houston Underground Saxophone Competition. He is grateful to have experience performing with advanced ensembles as well, having been a member of Del Mar College’s annual First Chair Honor Band, a Texas All-State Band, and a UIL State-qualifying quartet before his underclassman years came to an end.
A multi-instrumentalist, Nicholas is currently studying the clarinet, with plans to study the euphonium during his senior year. Equally dedicated to his scholastic studies, Nicholas has ranked in the top ten of his high school class since the start of his freshman year. He also enjoys transcribing jazz music and teaching private saxophone lessons.
Receiving the Award will allow Nicholas to purchase an alto and soprano saxophone that will help him pursue his goal of becoming a professional saxophone teacher and performer.
