Meet Marcos

Marcos appeared on From the Top alongside his colleagues in the Miami Music Project Clarinet Quartet on Show 381 in January 2020.

Marcos Alvarez (clarinet), 17, is a high school senior from Miami, Florida. He currently studies clarinet with Andres Felipe Candamil Gutierrez and Anna Brumbaugh, taking lessons at both the Miami Music Project and the New World School of the Arts. After starting clarinet in sixth grade, Marcos’ interest in music developed quickly – he started taking private lessons, joined the Miami Music Project, and participated in the National Take a Stand Festival at Bard College, performing under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel. Marcos has pursued additional summer studies at Interlochen Arts Camp and the YOLA National Festival, where he again worked with Maestro Dudamel. Receiving the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award will allow Marcos to purchase two clarinets.
