Meet Madeline
Madeline performs on Show 478.
Madeline Cagle (French horn), 18, from Bessemer, Alabama,is a freshman at Louisiana State University, where she studies horn with Johanna Yarbrough. She has been studying horn since she was 11. Her previous primary teachers include Cynthia Chambless and Anthony Parrish. In 2020, she joined the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra and eventually served as principal horn from 2022-2025. In 2023, Madeline attended Interlochen Arts Camp, where she played in both the World Youth Wind Symphony and the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. She attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in 2024 and 2025, where she played principal horn on Rhapsody in Blue, Stravinsky’s Firebird Ballet, and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony.
Madeline has competed in numerous solo competitions. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, she competed in the Alabama All-State Solo Competition. In 2025, she won the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra’s annual Concerto Competition, performing with the orchestra in May 2025. Madeline also was a finalist for the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band Concerto Competition, ultimately placing third overall.
Outside of music, Madeline enjoys reading, crocheting, and spending time outdoors.
