Katherine performs on Show 470.
Katherine Schaufenbuel (violin), 14, hails from Naperville, Illinois. In addition to being a 2025 fellow of NPR’s From the Top, she has also been featured on WFMT 98.7’s Introductions. She studies with professor Grigory Kalinovsky of IU Jacobs Music School. Katherine has been a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras for six years, currently as co-principal of its Symphony Orchestra. Recently, she has attended music programs such as the Perlman Music Program and the Heifetz International Music Institute. She has also collaborated with and taken masterclasses from many prominent musicians, including Itzhak Perlman, Midori, Martin Beaver, Sergey Malov, Robert McDuffie, Vadim Gluzman, Francesca de Pasquale, Rebecca Henry, Dr. Renée-Paule Gauthier, and more. Katherine is an incoming freshman at Naperville North High School. Outside of music, she enjoys golfing and likes to build model cars. Katherine plays on a 1792 J Gagliano violin generously loaned by Kenneth Warren and Son, Ltd.
