Jahiem James, euphonium
Meet Jahiem
Jahiem performs on Show 434.
Jahiem James (Euphonium), 18, lives in Winter Haven, Florida and is a senior at Harrison School for the Arts in Lakeland, Florida. Jahiem’s musical journey began when he was in the 5th grade and chose to play the euphonium in his school’s band program. While attending his first wind symphony concert as an audience member, Jahiem heard several beautifully performed solos which greatly inspired him. At this moment, his dream to become a euphonium soloist and move audiences through music was formed.
Jahiem’s dream has inspired him to pursue many different musical opportunities. He has performed in the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA)’s Solo and Ensemble Festivals at both the District and State levels, as well as in the Florida All State Band. Jahiem was also selected as an alternate player for the 2021-2022 NAfME All National Honor Band. Other musical accomplishments include participating in the Luigi Cerritelli International Music Competition, earning Second Place in Charleston International Music Competition’s 2022 Contemporary Music Competition, and being awarded two full-ride scholarships and a first-chair position at Cannon Music Camp in North Carolina.
In addition to playing the euphonium, Jahiem also acts and dances in musical theatre productions and occasionally plays at his church. One of his goals as a musician is to help bring more awareness to the euphonium and to expose its literature to a wider audience.
Receiving the Award will allow Jahiem to purchase his first own euphonium and bass trombone, making it possible for him to continue his musical studies after he graduates from high school. The Award will also help to cover college application and audition costs.
