Jacob O’Toole, double bass
Meet Jacob
Jacob performs on Show 457.
Jacob O’Toole (double bass), 17, hails from Kansas City, Missouri. He began playing the double bass in elementary school, during fifth grade. Two years later, he began taking double bass seriously after he joined the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in Arizona, where he met his private teacher, Nathaniel De La Cruz, who he has been studying with ever since. There, he slowly worked his way up to the principal position of the second highest orchestra after three years of learning and growth, gaining valuable experience in orchestral playing and section leadership. He then moved to Kansas City in 2022 during his second year of high-school, where he began to flourish as a musician, joining and becoming principal of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City, and later principal of the Missouri district and all state orchestras. Along with this, he also competed and won first place in the 23′ Northland Symphony Young artist competition, where he was able to debut the first movement of the Vanhal concerto with orchestral accompaniment, developing his skill in solo performance. Most recently, he started taking lessons from Joseph Nunez, a member of the Kansas City Symphony, and was accepted as a member of the Eastern Music Festival, joining their 2024 season. There, he had the opportunity to perform alongside fantastic peers and learn from amazing faculty, as well as learn and perform challenging repertoire and endure an overall strenuous program.
