Evelyn Shengxi Yang (piano), 13, from New York, New York,is a pianist in the Juilliard Pre-College program, where she has studied with Prof. Ernest Barretta since being accepted at the age of 9. Known for her musical sensitivity and expressive depth, Evelyn has received numerous first and grand prizes in national and international piano competitions.

As a featured soloist, she has performed piano concerti with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under Miguel Harth-Bedoya, QinXin Ensemble, Camerata New Jersey Orchestra, and IPS Orchestra, appearing at major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Sheldonian Theatre at the University of Oxford, Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Pepsico Hall at TCU, Tianjin Juilliard Concert Hall, Tsai Performance Center in Boston, Merkin Concert Hall, etc. In 2023, her performance of Beethoven’s Sonata in G Major, Op. 79 is featured on Spotify, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music. In 2024, she gave her solo recital debut at Juilliard’s Paul Hall. Additionally, she was invited to perform harpsichord with the Juilliard Pre-College String Orchestra, becoming the youngest member of the school’s Historical Performance program.

An avid chamber musician, Evelyn has partnered with another rising star at Juilliard School Pre-College, Taige Wang for piano duets. She also plays in the Juilliard Chamber Program. She also studies composition and conducting, plays the cello, and serves as principal cellist of her school orchestra.

Offstage, Evelyn is deeply involved in community service. She is a regional director for the Back to Bach Project and regularly volunteers through Juilliard’s community engagement programs.

As a voracious learner who excels with a passion for all academic areas, Evelyn is currently an “A” student at the prestigious Dalton School in NYC, where she was selected to co-host a school podcast honoring the legacy of Helen Parkhurst. Her writing has been featured in the Junior Scholastic Magazine as a voice of inspiration.

Evelyn is also a part-time actress and was featured in the upcoming film Piano Prince. In her free time, she enjoys photography, skiing, alpine hiking, traveling, and paragliding.
