Ella and Mia perform on Show 466.
Ella and Mia Wimbiscus (cello), ages 14 and 21, are sisters from the Chicago area. Ella is a homeschooled eighth grader and Mia is a sophomore at the Royal Conservatory, Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto. They are both students of Hans Jensen.
Recently Ella received the Frans Helmerson Award at the prestigious Kronberg Cello Masterclasses in Germany and Mia performed with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Combined they have won many international and national awards including Popper International Cello Competition in Hungary, Dotzauer International Competition in Germany, the Walgreens National Competition and ENKOR International Music Competition. They have both soloed with orchestras here and in Europe.
For many years they have enjoyed playing cello duets and trios (with mom) not only on large stages but in nursing homes and retirement homes, bringing music to the community.
In their free time they both like to take yoga and pilates classes regularly. Ella was a ballerina for seven years and is now enjoying modern dance. Mia enjoys baking, perfecting her many of her favorite recipes.
