Daniel De La Cruz (viola), 17, is a senior at Tesoro High School. He currently holds the role of principal viola with the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO) and has previously performed as section leader of the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra and the South Coast Youth Symphony Orchestra. Additional orchestral experience includes performing as a member of the All-Southern California Symphony Orchestra, and the All-State Symphony Orchestra for multiple years since middle school. This past summer, Daniel was selected as a member of the prestigious National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. This year’s ensemble had the honor of taking part in a North American tour, sharing the stage with world-renowned violinists Gil Shaham and Hilary Hahn.

Daniel enjoys using his musical talents to serve and give back to the community. Examples of that include bringing joy and entertainment to various senior centers, and contributing to fundraising efforts such as the CHOC Children’s Heart Foundation Fundraiser. Aside from music, Daniel volunteers his time at organizations like Gold Coast Farm, to promote sustainable agriculture and environmental sustainability.

Receiving the Award will allow Daniel to purchase a new instrument, bow, and case, which will support his journey into college and further into his professional career. The Award funds will also help to cover the cost of upcoming college audition travel.
