Corey Gutierrez, saxophone
Meet Corey
Corey Gutierrez (saxophone), 18, lives in Houston, Texas and is currently a senior at Clear Brook High School, where he studies privately with Nicholas Madden. He has attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Youth Summer Saxophone Workshop and the Baylor High School Band Camp, and has had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with Bob Eason, Zach Shemon, and From the Top alum, Chad Lilley.
For all four years of high school, Corey has been selected as an All-State musician and Texas Music Scholar Award winner by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). He has performed as a finalist in the Houston Underground Saxophone Competition, winning fourth place in 2023, and regularly performs with the top ensembles at his school, including the Ignium Saxophone Quartet.
Outside of music, Corey is a dedicated student in the top 8% of his class and is a recipient of the College Board Hispanic Recognition Award. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, and biking through the city of Houston.
Receiving the Award will support Corey by allowing him to upgrade his instrument, assisting with college audition travel and lodging costs, and covering private lessons through the end of the scholastic year.
