Meet Austin
Austin performs on Show 458.
Austin Webster-Perks (violin), 16, moved from Nova Scotia, Canada, to New York City in the fall of 2022 and is currently studying with Dr. Ann Setzer at Juilliard Pre-College. He has been awarded numerous top prizes at Canadian local, provincial, and national competitions including first prize at the national 2022 Canadian Music Competition. That same year, Austin received the String Rose Bowl Trophy and the Rising Star Award at the Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival. In 2021, Austin was given first prize at the Provincial Music Festival and was chosen to represent Nova Scotia at the National Canadian Music Festival where he was awarded second prize.
Austin has performed in Alice Tully Hall and Geffen Hall as a member of the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra. He has also been the recipient of a Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship in both 2022 and 2024 and has participated in masterclasses and lessons with James Ehnes, Jaime Laredo, Martin Beaver, Hagai Shaham, and Ara Gregorian. Last winter, Austin’s quartet was featured on New York City’s PIX11 Morning News TV program and was chosen to represent the Pre-College at Juilliard’s annual ChamberFest.
Austin is excited for his performance of the Mendelssohn violin concerto with the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra this fall. In his free time, Austin likes to hang out with his friends, play chess and basketball, and travel downtown for good Korean food.
