Meet Angela Wang and Erin Liao

Angela Wang and Erin Liao (flute), 17 and 16, first met through the 2020 All Southern California Ensembles (SCSBOA) and both have since earned principal positions in the All Southern and All State ensembles each consecutive year. Through playing side-by-side at the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Los Angeles Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Angela and Erin have grown closer as musicians and friends. Recently, the duo played as concerto soloists at Walt Disney Concert Hall performing Franz Doppler’s Double Flute Concerto with the Los Angeles Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, the duo has won first prize in the Opus Music Foundation’s Pelican Music Competition, World Stage Online Music Competition (WSOMC), Bach International Music Competition, and was a Classical Music Stars Chamber Category Finalist. Further, the duo has been invited to the Pelican Grand Prize Invitational and have been invited back to give their testimonials to the WSOMC. As From the Top alumni and attendees of the Music and the Brain Youth Symposium in Los Angeles, the duo plans to increase their exploration between music and science, which they have already done so by researching performance anxiety and the relevant neuroscience.
