Meet Alexander

Alexander appeared on From the Top’s Tiny Desk concert in January 2026. He also performs on Show 476.

Alexander Zhou (piano), 9, is a rising young pianist currently studying with Dr. Natela Mchedlishvili at Special Music School. A proud recipient of the 2025-2026 From the Top Learning and Media Lab Fellowship, he has been featured on NPR’s acclaimed Tiny Desk Concert series.

Alexander has performed widely across the United States and Europe. He made his orchestral debut at age six with the Cremona Music Academy Orchestra and presented a solo recital at Steinway Hall New York at age eight. His top competition honors include First Prize and the Special Prize for Best International Pianist at the 2nd International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Kronberg, Germany; First Prize at the 31st Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Poland; and First Prize at the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition.

Beyond the piano, Alexander is a dedicated and versatile musician with a deep passion for musical theater, choral singing, improvisation, and composition.
