Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Tony Rymer Performs with Boston Pops

Tony Rymer, a 19-year-old cellist from Dorchester, MA, appeared on From the Top with a string quartet from his music program, ProjectSTEP, back when he was in high school. In addition to playing on the show, he received one of From the Top’s first Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Awards and later used some of his $10,000 scholarship to purchase a cello.

That cello has taken him far…. Now a second year student at New England Conservatory in Boston, Tony won this year’s 12th Annual Sphinx Competition in Detroit. Along with a $10,000 prize, winning the Sphinx Competition has put Tony on the radar of many first-class orchestras. Tonight and tomorrow evening, Tony will perform with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall in Boston.

We are thrilled to see Tony’s continued success and feel very proud to have helped him along the way. Read NEC’s press release.
