From the Top Announces 10th Anniversary Tour

boy_violinWe are pleased to announce our 2009-2010 national tour dates for taping our popular NPR radio program hosted by acclaimed concert pianist Christopher O’Riley. The tour will include concert events at From the Top’s home base at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall and cities from Atlanta to Santa Barbara and will mark From the Top’s tenth anniversary in public broadcasting.

What began as a radio experiment in 2000 quickly became one of the fastest growing and most popular weekly classical music programs on public radio. Broadcast on nearly 250 stations nationwide to an audience of more than 700,000 listeners each week, From the Top celebrates the amazing performances and captivating stories of America’s best pre-college classical musicians.

In the past ten years, From the Top has expanded its reach to include an Emmy-nominated PBS television series, online media, and rich educational programming ranging from school and community outreach to music textbooks published by Macmillan/McGraw Hill. Annually, From the Top and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation award more than $200,000 in scholarships to high achieving musicians with limited financial means. The program has invested more than $1 million in support of pre-college students since 2005.

From the Top’s 10th Anniversary Tour will reach more than 20,000 live audience members of all ages across the country. In conjunction with the national tour, we will also conduct classroom and community outreach programs leveraging the power of our performers as role models for younger students.

From the Top will also lead residency programs in the Hawaiian Islands and in Iowa that combine live radio tapings with school programs, curriculum development, and leadership workshops for high school musicians. Select tapings during the season will bring back From the Top alumni to highlight their successes and reminisce on ten years on the air. Tour dates can be found on fromthetop.org and include:
