Celebrate From the Top Day in Boston…yesterday!
Yesterday – Sunday October 4 – was a pretty special day for us here at From the Top. In addition to having our Board of Directors and Overseers in town for our annual meeting, we also recorded episode 313 of our radio show, NPR’s From the Top with Host Christopher O’Riley, in celebration of our 15th anniversary, and welcomed back a From the Top alum, pianist George Li, who recently won a silver medal at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
George played the 3rd and final movement of Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto with the NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and it’s safe to say that together, these outstanding musicians (more than 100 of them!) lifted the roof of Jordan Hall (by a few inches at least). The show also featured the Isolde Quartet, based at NEC Prep here in Boston, 9-year-old Harmony Zhu on piano, HyunJae Lim on violin, and James Vaughen on trumpet.
As if that wasn’t enough…
Martin Walsh, the Mayor of Boston, issued a proclamation declaring October 4, 2015, as From the Top Day in the city of Boston.
So, let’s keep the party going and celebrate a day late! Thanks to everyone who came out to the show, to our fabulous young musicians, and to our donors and supporters for making it all possible.
