Alum John-Henry Crawford Receives First Prize in Philadelphia Competition

18-year-old cellist John-Henry Crawford recently won First Prize in the Senior Division of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s 2011 Greenfield Competition. As a winner, he will solo next season in a concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra! John-Henry has appeared on From the Top twice, Show 206 in Dallas, TX in 2009 and Show 219 in Saint Paul, MN in 2010.

For this competition, he performed Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante, first in semi-final auditions in January, then in the finals before a live audience at the Verizon Hall of the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia on March 15th.

In addition, John-Henry and Curtis pianist Patrick Kreeger gave a March tour of five recitals in five days in Louisiana and Tennessee. The tour culminated in a recital for the Belz Parker Artists Ascending Series in Memphis, TN which has featured teenage performers who later became artists, such as Itzhak Perlman, Daniel Barenboim, Gil Shaham, and Hilary Hahn.

Other venues included the Louisiana School for the Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, LA, Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and the Trezevant Manor in Memphis,TN.
