Alum Emi Ferguson Performs “Amazing Grace” at 9/11 Memorial Service
From the Top alum Emi Ferguson may have just had the performance of a lifetime! This past Sunday she joined musicians Yo-Yo Ma, Paul Simon, and James Taylor to perform at the 9/11 Memorial Service in New York, honoring those who died ten years ago. The flutist, who appeared on Show 121 in New York City back in 2005, delivered a simple yet touching “Amazing Grace” just before the moment of silence commemorating the 9:59 AM fall of the South Tower. Emi also played background music with the other musicians during the reading of the victims’ names.
Emi’s family received calls and emails of support from her fans in the UK, France, and US after this internationally-televised performance.
Here’s a video of her performance (right after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s poem recitation):
Emi is from Brookline, Massachusetts and first appeared on From the Top at age 16. Since then, she’s received her master and bachelor’s degrees from Juilliard. We’re very proud to have an alum perform for such a moving service!
