Alum Andrea Carroll lands roles in two operas and announced as a 2012 Filene Young Artist

Soprano Andrea Carroll, who performed on Show #172 at Daytona Beach, Florida in 2008, has more on her plate than her studies at the Manhattan School of Music. As a 2012 Filene Young Artist she will play Zerlina in the Wolf Trap Opera Company’s production of Don Giovanni this summer, and will also take the stage as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro for Fort Worth Opera.

Andrea is one of 12 artists, selected from about 800 applicants, chosen for a summer residence at the Wolf Trap Opera Company in Virginia (Other From the Top alumni who have ended up at Wolf Trap include bass singer Rhys Talbot from Show #197 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Wolf Trap announced its new season and artist line-up back in February, and attendees got to hear a preview of Andrea’s upcoming performance!*

Andrea also won the $10,000 first prize of the Houston Grand Opera’s Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers in February, winning an extra $1,000 for the Audience Choice Award. Since performing on From the Top, Andrea has also attended the Glimmerglass Festivals’ Young Artist Program and took second place in the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition.

We hope Andrea does her best as she finishes up her last year in school and tackles these upcoming productions!
