Baldvin Oddsson Brings Holiday Cheer to Reykjavik’s Hospitals Through Music
16-year-old trumpet player and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Baldvin Oddsson appeared on Show #221 in Boston, Massachusetts last fall. Currently a junior at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, over the holidays Baldvin returned home to Reykjavik, Iceland, where he put on a small concert series as an Arts Leadership project. He performed in several hospitals and nursing homes, using his music to bring holiday cheer to the patients.
Christmas is a difficult time for (those) in long-term hospitalization and it is traditional for musicians to visit hospitals and old peoples’ homes during the Christmas period when the days are shortest and darkest in Iceland… I want to communicate the pleasure that I get from playing and hope my playing gives them pleasure as well. – Baldvin
