Meet Sofia
Sofia performs on Show 482.
Sofia Graupera (harp), 17, hails from Weston, Massachusetts.She is a part of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) under Mr. Benjamin Zander. BPYO was named “Best Classical Music Ensemble” by Boston Magazine, and is composed largely of collegiate musicians from Harvard, NEC, Berklee, and Boston University. Acceptance to BPYO granted Sofia a tuition-free orchestral experience and tour to six cities in Mexico (2025), featuring side-by-side performances and cultural exchanges. She was accepted to Project STEP (String Training Education Program), which has a mission to has provided talented young musicians with comprehensive music instruction at no cost. Sofia was chosen to represent Project STEP in the premier 2026 tour to New York City.
Sofia was accepted to both sessions of New England Conservatory’s Summer Orchestra Institute (NEC SOI) in 2023. She also received an all-encompassing scholarship to participate in the program. In 2024, Sofia received the National Kids for Camp Award from the American Harp Society, fully funding her studies at the Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy. At the festival, she was chosen to participate in the Outstanding Masterclass Series with world-renowned harpist Alexander Boldachev, and received the Gumptious Performer Award. Later, in 2025, she was selected as one of nine musicians nationwide for the Fortissima Fellowship at the Colburn School (University of Southern California). Fortissima is a fully funded leadership and artistic development program, with mentorship and networking with Grammy-winning musicians.
Sofia has also performed with the Rivers Youth Symphony and Symphony Pro Musica, and has held principal harp positions in both the Massachusetts All-State and Eastern District Symphony Orchestras (2023-2025). She was further distinguished with a principal position at the NAfME (National Association for Music Education) All-Eastern Festival, earning the highest audition score among harpists from the eleven east coast states.
