Meet Khalid

Khalid Abdallah (trumpet), 17, is currently in his senior year at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts. He began his musical journey as a member of his elementary school choir, moving to the instrumental realm with the euphonium in the sixth grade. Khalid’s life trajectory changed on a trip to his mother’s homeland of Colombia in the eighth grade, when he was challenged by his uncle to try his worn-down trumpet that had seen better days. He was hooked, playing the instrument every day during that trip. Seeing his passion, Khalid’s uncle sent him home with the instrument as a gift. Shortly thereafter, Khalid entered the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School, meeting his current teacher, Raymond Mase, through a masterclass hosted by the Bloomingdale School of Music Access Project (M.A.P.).

Today, Khalid is a student in both the Cali Pathways Project and Juilliard Pre-College. In addition to these programs, Khalid has participated in the New York Philharmonic Festival Youth Orchestra, the Equity Arc Wind Symphony, Kinhaven Music School Senior Session, and Carnegie Hall’s NYO2, touring Scotland in the summer of 2025 under the baton of Rafael Payare.

Outside of music, Khalid enjoys going to the gym, biking, reading, and spending time with friends.

Receiving the award will allow Kahlid to purchase quality instruments that will support his playing through college and into the professional field. The scholarship will also help to cover the travel and lodging costs needed to attend upcoming college and conservatory auditions.
